Foraging, Folklore & Storytelling in the Ancient Woodland of Ty Canol

Step into one of Wales' most enchanting landscapes and discover the hidden stories, wild foods, and ancient practices

associated with Ty Canol National Nature Reserve.

Join professional forager Dan Moar of Forage Pembrokeshire and the Hydref Collective, alongside ecologist, traditional storyteller, and fellow ancestral skills practitioner Max Henderson, for a unique immersive journey through one of Britain's most remarkable ancient woodlands.

With decades of combined experience teaching and practising traditional crafts, ecology, foraging, and oral storytelling, Dan and Max will guide you through this enchanting woodland where nature, history, and myth intertwine.

As we wander beneath the twisted oaks and moss-covered boulders of this magical landscape, you'll learn to identify a diverse range of native plants, trees and fungi, discovering their culinary uses, medicinal properties, ecological importance, and rich folklore traditions.

We'll explore the principles of sustainable and ethical foraging, helping you deepen your connection to the land while learning practical skills that have sustained communities for generations.

But this is far more than a foraging walk.

Ty Canol lies within a landscape steeped in mystery. We'll delve into the legends surrounding the ancient Druidic college rumoured to have once stood nearby, visit the shadow of the magnificent Pentre Ifan burial chamber, and uncover tales that have echoed across these hills for thousands of years.

Along the way you'll encounter stories of the fae and "Annwn" the Otherworld, Arthurian legends, the heroes and enchantments of the Mabinogi, and myths drawn from both Celtic and Norse traditions. Through storytelling and discussion, we'll explore how our ancestors understood the natural world and the beings they believed inhabited it.

This is an opportunity to slow down, sharpen your senses, and experience the landscape through the eyes of both naturalist and storyteller. Whether you're interested in wild food, folklore, ecology, history, or simply wish to reconnect with the living world, this experience offers a rare chance to immerse yourself in the rich cultural and ecological heritage of Pembrokeshire.

Come and walk the ancient paths. Discover the plants, hear the stories, and uncover the magic hidden within the woodland.
